Restored Baths

Boutique Baths has been restoring claw foot baths since the original company was acquired by Jo Embury in 2001. The company renovates client’s baths and pedestal basins, or supplies fully restored baths to custom specifications. Rare collector items range from less than five feet (1525mm) to over six feet (1830mm) in length.

Once the domain of Federation homes, claw foot baths are now being included in modern renovation, a a touch of indulgence. Traditional Federation designs incorporated brass-coloured feet, whereas the modern interpretation includes the use of chrome and new finishes such as Satin Chrome, Black Nickel, Antique Copper and Antique Brass which are more in keeping with today’s design influences.

The restoration process involves shot blasting the original bathtub back to a bare cast. It is ten inspected to ensure there are no fractures or cracks. A rust proofing treatment is applied, to seal the metal cast. Filling agents are applied, before several coats of synthetic porcelain are applied, creating a smooth finish. The bath is then baked before polishing and packaging and off for another lifetime of use.

A Leading Sydney designer incorporated a bath from Boutique Baths in a home in Bondi (as pictured). The bathroom was completely gutted and redesigned to incorporate a fireplace and frameless shower screen.
