What state does my bath need to be in, so it can be restored?
Antique baths that still has the original porcelain left on the internal side of the bath means the cast is protected and its in good condition to restore. Should the bath be collected from an outside environment and has deteriorated back to the raw cast, restoration can only take place if the bottom of the bath is without pitting. If this is the case, the bath may not be structurally sound to reuse.

How do I check whether a bath is good value?
A lot of people come across baths for sale or ones left on old properties which seem to be in good order. Some things to check for include:

  • protective coating on the inside of the bath(ie Porcelain)
  • Correct bath feet and working lugs. If the bath has lost a foot, Boutique Baths may be able to match it
  • All lugs that attach the feet are not missing or broken, and finally
  • Any broken parts or cracks in the cast

If any baths that you may find on the internet, backyard or paddock have any of these faults, it is advised not to purchase the bath for restoration. Boutique Baths takes the fuss and worry out of selecting a bath and you get a choice of baths that have been professionally checked.

How long does it take to restore a bath?
A typical restoration takes 3-4 weeks.

How do I fit the bath restoration into a full bathroom renovation project?
Bathroom renovations take about 3-4 weeks. When your builder starts the Stripout, it is a good time to have the bath collected. Whilst the demolition, plumbing, electrical, waterproofing and tiling is done, the bath can be restored. The bath is delivered a few days after the completion of tiling. It is best to install the bath before the shower screen and PC items are installed, as it makes it easier to manoeuvre for installation.

What does my plumber need to know before installation?
Your plumber/ builder will need the dimensions of the bath to accurately place the new waste:

  • for a new property development where plumbing/ drainage has not been allocated
  • for renovations where a claw bath will be replacing a bath/shower
  • for renovations where the location of the bath will be moved

Your plumber / builder will need to place taps at 600mm from the ground keeping in mind that additional height is needed for flooring, tile bed and tiles.

Your plumber / builder will need to make sure that older style, antique baths have 50mm wastes, not 40mm, which are for new baths.

Customers are given an estimation date in addition to an other call a few days prior to delivery for actual delivery date and time are given. Customers should not arrange a plumber to install the bath until the bath has been delivered. This eliminates any costs of re scheduling plumbers if there is an unexpected delivery delay.

The bath will be delivered to site; and help is required for loading / unloading. The provision of a trolley is supplied to move the bath along flat, hard surfaces. If the bath needs to be carried up stairs or difficult locations, an additional service will be required at the customer's expense.

NOTE: Boutique Baths does not accept any responsibility for damages to property or persons during the delivery of the bath. Any damage incurred, whilst moving the bath at a will be the responsibility of (the customer). Boutique Baths is not covered by insurance for damages to persons, property or goods. Boutique Baths are bath restorers, not removalist. We offer a delivery service to your door only. It is up to the customer to organise further persons to move the bath inside a dwelling and into the bathroom.

All deliveries to retail outlets must sign a delivery docket, confirming the bath is in good order, prior to further transport / delivery to the client. Any damages between the retailer and client will be the responsibility of the Retail Outlet.

After delivery, keep the bath in a dry, protected area. Remove packaging within 24hours, especially if the bath has been exposed to heat or moisture during transportation or storage. Packaging left on the bath can have a “sweating” effect on the surface, resulting in blistering. Baths are ideally stored indoors, unwrapped, upright & covered with a blanket.

First 6 weeks - dry the bath after each use; avoid leaving damp or wet materials on the surface and keep surface clean. NB. Baths can only be baked for a specific time and at certain temperatures. A longer curing process in 60 degrees produces a stronger & more durable finish.

MOVING THE BATH Take care when moving bath through doorways. Protect bath with original packaging or thick blankets to avoid scratching the bath. Do not manoeuvre the bath by the feet. The feet are only designed to withstand the weight of the bath during use due to the original design of the bath feet attachments. If feet are used to manoeuvre the bath, there is a possibility they may come off.

BATH FEET If the feet are not attached prior to delivery or need to be removed, please insure the following. Check the height of all feet. In most cases, there will be 2 large and 2 small feet. The small feet are placed at the plughole end. This enables a natural drainage of water to the plughole. When attaching the feet, please make sure the feet are firm but not too tight, as this may damage the surface &/or the groove under the cast (may chip/fracture). We are not responsible if this occurs. If feet are all the same height, attach them to the bath and check “set-up” of bath ( see below ). All Electroplated, Cast Iron feet, can spot (except Solid Brass feet).

BATH LEVEL AND SET-UP In most cases, these antique baths will wobble after installation. This is mainly due to the fall in the bathroom floor (for drainage purposes). Packers are needed between the feet and floor. We are not responsible for the level of the bath. Rubber packers, washers, coins or equivalent, are recommended. Please insure that any material used is durable & strong enough to withstand approximately 150Kg weight. After installation, fill the bath with a few centimetres of water with the plug in. Then, pull plug out, drain water, and make sure all water drains out without ponding. If this occurs, the bath feet at the opposite end to the waste need to have increased height to allow adequate flow of water. Continual ponding of water, especially in the initial 6 weeks will damage the bath surface.
THIS PROCEDURE MUST BE FOLLOWED OR IT CAN EFFECT YOUR WARRANTY

ACCESSORIES

Plug chain attachments – Unscrew the nut. Place the attachment with rubber seal between the bath and the attachment. The nut should be screwed on just enough to hold everything in place.

Brodware Bath Trays have been especially fitted with protective sleaves to protect your bath. Do not remove. Please use the Allen key to adjust to fit your bath. This prevents collapsing. We don't recommend timber bath trays.

Bath Overflow kits. All kits come disassembled. We only recommend a licensed plumber to install all kits. Some connecting pipes need to be altered for exact fitting as all baths are usually different heights.

Floor Dropper. These pipes need to be cut to size and placed over the original waste pipe. The dropper has a floor flange at one end to hide the newly cut pipe. The other end screws into the bottom of the bath waste.
